Introduction/Introduktion.

English: The atelier for a painter is located on the coast of Portugal. The project was part of a course at Aalborg University in 2017. Throughout the course, I had to focus on the use of concrete construction and ventilation strategies. You might discover, that my inspiration for this project was mainly the beautiful East House by Peter Rose + Partners.

Plandrawing/Plantegning.

English: You enter from the right, between a small passage, where you decide either to enter the home or walk around and into the workshop and exhibition area, which is located to the far left. In the middle of the building are the two small bedrooms, which are placed with a close connection to the bathroom, which is located on the opposite side. Furthermore, the technical room was placed in close connection to both the workshop, the bathroom and the kitchen, which are the critical rooms in terms of ventilation.

Concept/Koncept.

English: The concept was to create a direction through the atelier, with a bearing wall, that will support the terrain. The living room and workshop are volumes that were extruding out from this wall, to in a way separate the functions visually. Furthermore, by playing with different ceiling height, gave an impression of leaving or entering a new room. Because the building was placed in such beautiful surroundings, this was a primary element, that had to be implemented into the concept. By using large panoramic windows, give the opportunity to explore the landscape and views of the North Atlantic as it were a painting.

Entrance/Indgang.

English: As seen above, the passage, where you have to decide rather enter the home or walk around and discover the workshop and exhibition area.

Livingroom/Dagligstue

English: When you go inside, you are entering the living room, where you have the view towards the sea, a wooden roof construction, raw semi-reflective concrete walls, and beautiful wooden flooring, that is orientated towards the view.

English: The kitchen and living room seem divided by the hallway, by changing the height of the room.

Workshop and exhibition/Værksted og udstilling.

English: The workshop and exhibition area are created in the same style, but with a higher room height, so make it possible for the artist to create tall paintings. Natural light is important for the artist, that is why the room has many windows, with the possibility to shade from direct sunlight.

Section detail/Detaljesnit.

English: The section above is a cut through the workshop area and storage, which is located to the right. The thick black line is showing how the building cuts into the landscape. Furthermore, the drawing also shows, how the building is isolated and supported.
